The Renaissance is a mixed-income redevelopment of the former obsolete Boulevard Homes project on West Boulevard and Billy Graham in Charlotte. The project is a collaboration between Charlotte Housing Authority (CHA) and Laurel Street Residential, utilizing grants and Housing Trust Funds from the City of Charlotte. To add to the complexity, Renaissance West Community Initiative (RWCI) is coordinating the wraparound cradle to career education continuum services for the community. Yellow Duck Marketing created the branding for Renaissance and RWCI, and are currently putting together a video and campaign materials to raise funds for the Early Childhood Development Center.
The development team and RWCI decided to switch from building a charter school to striking a $17 Million deal with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) to leverage bonds to build a new Pre-K through 8 school on the Renaissance education campus. This was a major shift in direction and required a major coordinated effort between CMS, RWCI, and CHA with approval from Laurel Street and the City of Charlotte.
A press conference and press release were pulled together within 2 weeks. The result was that every news station showed up along with WFAE (NPR) and the Charlotte Observer.
