Head Quack
Julianne McCollum
People love calling me the Head Quack. I’ve learned to embrace it.
Before founding Yellow Duck Marketing in 2011, I spent 11 years at Crosland, one of the Southeast’s most respected real estate developers. As VP of Marketing & Technology, I led marketing, communications, public relations and technology across a $2 billion portfolio. I built the company’s brand and digital infrastructure from the inside out, guided communications through complex entitlements and oversaw marketing for three large-scale, multiphase master-planned communities with more than 10 builder partners each.
That developer-side experience still shapes how Yellow Duck works today. We understand the pressures behind the assignment, not just the deliverable in front of us. Our team brings that perspective and empathy to branding, public relations, web design, community engagement, events and destination marketing for real estate developers, shopping centers, mixed-use communities, municipalities and hospitality clients.
Throughout my career, I’ve been trusted to steward corporate brands through growth, change and consolidation. I especially enjoy helping organizations define what makes them valuable, identify where they are headed and create strategies that move both their business and their communities forward. As a certified charrette facilitator, I have led visioning sessions for projects ranging from small communities to major mixed-use developments from Idaho to Jamaica.
One of my favorite long-term assignments has been leading community relations and public relations for Steak 48, North Carolina’s highest-grossing restaurant, for the past five years.
I earned my B.A. in Consumer Sciences from Purdue University and my M.B.A. from Wake Forest University. I’m also a proud Leadership Charlotte alumna.
I currently serve on the boards of the Urban Land Institute Charlotte Chapter and Roof Above, the Charlotte Ballet Board of Advisors and the Ascend Nonprofit Solutions Marketing Committee. My previous board and committee service includes Catawba Lands Conservancy, the Charlotte Interactive Marketing Association, FreeMoreWest and 24 Hours of Booty.
I prefer to be “behind the curtain” but in 2025, I was named one of the Charlotte Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs. I have also been recognized by The Mecklenburg Times as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in the greater Charlotte region. Still, my most demanding leadership role may be keeping up with my two wonderful and very active boys.
YEARS AT YDM: 15
Fun fact: I once brushed elbows with Princess Di in Hyde Park.
